Elder Care in Toronto, Ontario

Hi! My name is Samantha. I\'m currently working as a nanny but am looking for some weekend work with special needs adults or the elderly. My father was an elderly parent, and I grew up learning about various health problems (and social and emotional) that elderly adults have to deal with. He was a hugely positive influence on me and I remember before he passed away he told me \'people that age\' needed more people who actually cared. I also really enjoy working with special needs adults and would consider volunteering at first for a few hours every weekend in exchange for some training. I have worked at a day care center in Manitoba for special needs adults but would love to develop my knowledge and experience. Thanks so much! Samantha I have worked at the Down Syndrome Association of Toronto for one summer. I have also worked an enVision community living for three months (designated full time volunteer period) in Manitoba, with elderly special needs adults, as well as middle aged special needs adults. My duties involved entertainment (UNO, computer training, speech therapy using flash cards), hair care, feeding, and wheelchair use. As well, although this is not paid experience, I did grow up with an elderly father who passed away at the age of 77 when I was 17. Until that point I assisted with his walking, and was a part of maintaining his health when he discovered he had Parkinson's disease, diabetes and arthritis. I do not have any sort of certification for this kind of work but would be more than willing to undergo training either on-the-job or not (particularly in regards to medical care)
