Hi, I am Karen Joy Valenzuela, a Filipina. I was a nurse back home. I worked as an elder caregiver for almost 2 years here in Canada. I have taken care of a diabetic elderly for 11months. I have also experienced taking care of Elderly with Dementia and depression for 8 months. In both employment duties done were: making and accompanying clients to doctor\'s appointment, preparing meals, checking blood pressure, assisting with bath and grooming, administering oral medications, providing companionship, and assisting with exercises to promote and maintain mobility. I also communicated with patient\'s family about any unusualities or progress. I am also willing to learn and enhance personal care giving skills and other duties related to it. I took care of a diabetic patient with arthritis. provided companionship, assisted in mobility, grocery, laundry, prepared and cooked foods, ran errands,took blood pressure and blood sugar monitoring,light housekeeping, accompanied to doctor's appointment, reminding and giving medications. I also took care of an old lady with dementia and bipolar disorder. I assisted her in taking her medications, took and recorded her blood pressure, prepared meals, assisted in bathing and grooming, assisted with ambulation, set appointments with doctor and accompanied her to see family doctor. recently, I assisted my grandmother who was immobile for a month due to sciatica. I prepared meals for here, encouraged her to do bed exercises, assisted her in toileting on bed, promoted and assisted hygienic needs, took blood pressure. aside from these skills I also communicated with the family members about the patients condition progressive or unusual.
