Elder Care in Millet, Alberta

I was currently employed with Colchester East Hants Health Center, Truro Nova Scotia as a CTA. I have training on ALC(seniors with Dementia), Stroke, Palliative Care and Medical Units. I have completed the CCA course at the Community College Springhill Nova Scotia campus with much success. I graduated with honors, passed the Provincial Health Care exam as a Certified Continuing Care Assistant. Upon completing my job placement in a nursing home and working with VON. I have learned to apply my skills of care including, personal care, feeding and assisting to feed, helping the client prepare for bed along with all activities of daily living. Also with my experience working in a hospital for over 2 years I have become a Medical Team Player. Using my skills I have also learned to help clients with Alzheimer’s, Dementia understanding the disease to better help the clients with their daily living and to help their families cope with the disease of their loved ones by understanding it better. Responsibilities included activities of daily living, in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care, observing any unusual reactions, symptoms and incidents that may indicate changes in patients’ condition and reporting such to the RN / LPN on the unit. Assisted with palliative care patients and their families and also have some experience working on the stroke unit, palliative Care unit, and some experience with psychiatric patients as well. I recorded appropriate information as determined by unit’s documentation system. Transporting, collecting and distributing reports, specimens, slips and supplies to the appropriate locations. Understand and utilize appropriate aseptic techniques. I would perform tasks designated to me under the direction of the supervising nurse. I have also completed my glucose course, Meditech, Crises Intervention and wanting to continue my education with any other courses offered through my employer.
