Elder Care in Albuquerque, New Mexico

In my profession as a home health aide/caregiver of 19 plus years’ experience, I have developed a passion for people. I remind the people I care for (young and old) that they too are a person just a unique as the next by helping them as much as needed while allowing them to keep their dignity, self-respect and independence as much as possible. But most of all companionship. Taking the time to get to know someone simply by conversing, I feel gives a person a sense of recognition and worth. Often, I have been told by the person I am caring for ‘they feel as if they are in the way’ or ‘Surely you have better things to do then fuss over me’. My response is ‘There is nothing greater for me then to assist you in your times of need.’ And it gives me a great feeling at the end of the day knowing I put a smile on their face, even if it was just a smirk, they still smiled. Helping others I do not consider it a 'job' I see it as 'giving' to those in need of 'care' or TLC. It's my calling.
