Hi, I have over a decade of experience with elderly caregiving, both with in home care, and also providing extra support in long term care settings, as well as working with Alzheimer's, and Dementia. Also, I have some training in fall prevention, encouraging and guiding with range of motion exercises, proper procedures for cleanliness to prevent bacterial spread, and medication reminders. Additionally, I also have experience with slow careful walks if someone is mobile or uses a walker, and I have experience assisting someone with a wheelchair, and I have had training on how to use a Hoyer Lift, if someone is bedridden and needs assistance into a wheelchair. I am healthy, strong, and physically fit. As nutrition is extra important for the elderly, I am very conscious of using healthful foods and preparation. I have good food hygiene practices as well. By nature I am very safety minded, and I've had some first aid training over the years. And very importantly, I see my role as a caregiver as being more than just someone who provides the necessities of care. Companionship, intellectual stimulation, emotional support, engage in conversation over tea, keeping someone company while they play cards or bingo, board games, or listen to music, watch classic movies, go for walks if they are mobile, or whatever they enjoy. Seniors are unfortunately often undervalued in our society. I see them as being very wise with alot of life experience, and my approach is to treat then with respect and dignity, support them, and help empower them to enjoy life to the fullest. As well, I have strong communication skills, and am polite and friendly. I also have a clean Class G driver's license, if help is required with errands and outings.
