Elder Care in Kamloops, British Columbia

Hi there! I have been trained as a Resident Care Aide, and have been employed at a care home for the last 10 years, and truly enjoy all of the residents I have had the pleasure to spend time with. Two years prior to working in a care home atmosphere, I was employed by Interior Health in Kamloops as a Home Support Worker, both of these jobs allowed me knowledge and understanding of each persons needs, which I also learned is different for everyone. I believe having the chance to get to know, understand, and feel trust with someone is very important in life and especially this line of work. I feel that when becoming involved with elder and palliative care, communication with family is very important just as I would hope family feels the same. Communication or even lack of it can very easily build a strong relationship between everyone or crumble right before your eyes. I would encourage anyone who is involved with a family member needing care use a communication book that be kept in a safe place at the home where care is needed. A care provider is given the chance to communicate with family on ADL's, note of medications or medicine taken and time, questions, or even suggestions. My experience in elder care is as follows: Dementia, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, MS, stroke, palliative care, catheter care, colostomy care, medications-provided they are blister packed by pharmacist, ADL's, bathing, incontinent product use and care, personal grooming, light meal prep., companionship, laundry, dishes, light duty cleaning, taking client to appointments or shopping provided they have a vehicle as I only have a truck.
